Prerequisites
The Heartbeat Verification functionality is applicable for devices which support Heartbeat Technology, where Heartbeat Technology is enabled on the physical device and which are connected to Netilion e.g. via the FieldEdge SGC500. A list of compatible devices can be found here.
Suitable subscription to use Heartbeat Verification
The first step in the Heartbeat Verification journey is now to make sure you have an active Netilion Health subscription as well as the number of add-ons for Heartbeat Verification for the matching number of assets you want to perform a verification for. With this, you will be able to trigger a verification remotely, see the result of the verification (passed/not passed) and get access to the latest verification report as PDF. Optionally, you can activate a Netilion Library subscription to have access to the history of the verification reports.
Activate the add-on on the digital twin of the asset
To activate the add-on Heartbeat Verification on your asset in Netilion, please proceed as follows:
- Sign in to Netilion Health
- On all objects list, select the asset where you want to unlock the add-on Heartbeat Verification
- On the asset details page, click on "edit".
- In the section Features add-on, activate the Heartbeat Verification
- Refresh the page and you will see the Heartbeat Verification activated
Are the results of the Heartbeat Verification being stored?
Yes, the report of the latest verification performed is available as PDF in the asset detail page of Netilion Health. Further, all historical PDF reports are automatically assigned to the asset in Netilion Library, if you have an active Netilion Library subscription.
Does Netilion have access to write to my field devices through the Remote Heartbeat Verification?
The FieldEdge SGC500 reads information from connected field devices and triggers device functions if specific Netilion Services are subscribed and used, no configuration parameters are written to field devices. The FieldEdge SGC500 has outbound, encrypted calls only – no routing and two separate network connections. No Netilion information is transferred to the field. The Field Edge SGC500 receives remote updates as response to outbound requests from trusted E+H environment.
With our offering, we ensure highest security standards: Endress+Hauser is certified according to IEC 62443-4-1 and Digital Solutions to ISO 27001 certification.
Will the Remote Heartbeat Verification influence the measuring signal of the device?
First of all, make sure that you have implemented the technical setup correctly, connecting Heartbeat enabled field device(s) to Netilion (see prerequisites). If this is the case, no other behaviour than using the Webserver of the device or other tools like the mobile configuration tool Field Xpert or the configuration software FieldCare is expected.
During the performance of a Heartbeat Verification, there is no need to stop the process as the primary measurement is available during the entire device verification. For some devices, the output is frozen at last valid measurement for a few seconds. But since you are going to perform a Heartbeat Verification only under stable conditions, no practical implication is expected at all.
Is it possible to start the remote Heartbeat Verification from Netilion for flow instruments which are provided with a SIL lock?
The situation regarding remote Heartbeat Verifications is independent from Netilion Health, DCS/PLC or Asset Management System: If the device is in a SIL lock, a Heartbeat Verification cannot be started, because all flow meters are changing the status from “OK” to “Check” while the verification is running. The SIL lock status doesn't allow the status “Check”, because a reliable measurement signal is requested. Moreover, any HART command or digital command in a SIL loop is not permitted. Meaning it's not possible to run the verification remote using Netilion. The Heartbeat Verification can be done offline during the maintenance e.g. using our mobile configuration tablet Field Xpert, and the certificate will automatically be uploaded into Netilion.
Can I activate Heartbeat Technology for devices bought without Heartbeat?
To use the Remote Heartbeat Verification within Netilion Health, you need a Heartbeat enabled device with an active Heartbeat license. Currently, its not possible to activate a license for Heartbeat enabled device via Netilion but you can contact your local Endress+Hauser representative to activate the license on your device so you can benefit from the advantages of performing a remote Heartbeat Verification via Netilion in future.
Is it possible to schedule and automate the Heartbeat Verification?
The first version will allow to trigger a verification for the selected device remotely. The scheduler functionality is one of the upcoming features that are planned.
Can I trigger a verification from my ERP or CMMS system?
Our Netilion Services are based on a high-performant REST/JSON API, which allows an integration of data and information also in other ERP or CMMS systems.
To use the remote Heartbeat Verification functionalities within your ERP or CMMS system, you have to make sure that you have implemented the technical setup correctly, connecting Heartbeat enabled field device(s) to Netilion (see prerequisites). Using our Netilion Connect offering, you can then as well trigger remote Heartbeat Verifications and the PDF report can be stored directly within your ERP or CMMS system.
