Heartbeat Monitoring in Netilion is expanded with additional device-specific indices for supported flow devices. This Condition monitoring capabilities enable predictive maintenance by identifying process conditions that may negatively affect device or asset integrity or process performance.
Heartbeat Monitoring provides continuous condition monitoring such as:
- Heartbeat Sensor Integrity HBSI (corrosion, abrasion or mechanical damage)
- Build‑up Index (for detecting coating, fouling, or deposits)
These values enable predictive maintenance and early detection of process issues.
Remote Heartbeat Monitoring in Netilion
Remote Heartbeat Monitoring in Netilion gives customers continuous, remote insight into the condition and behavior of their field devices and processes. By connecting instruments with Heartbeat Technology to Netilion, relevant device and process parameters such as corrosion, abrasion or buildup are made transparently available and converted into actionable insights.
As a result, customers can optimize maintenance costs, stabilize operations, and extend asset lifetime - while maintaining reliability, safety, and compliance.
Understanding Heartbeat Monitoring parameters
Heartbeat Sensor Integrity HBSI (Coriolis)
The HBSI value represents the relative change of the sensor's integrity compared to its reference value from the factory (0%). As corrosion or abrasion occurs, the sensor integrity is affected and the HBSI value increases. Consequently, to securely identify the presence of a wear mechanism in the process, the HBSI value should be observed over time. If process conditions are unstable (e.g., entrained gas or strong temperature gradients), an influence on the HBSI value cannot be excluded. This is why the HBSI is always shown together with the process temperature as well as the carrier pipe temperature in Netilion.
Buildup index (Electromagnetic)
The buildup index is based on the difference in electrical conductivity between the fluid and the buildup.
The baseline of 0% is set during factory calibration of a new device without buildup and ranges to 100%, which represents the maximum detectable buildup formation. Although buildup type and formation may vary strongly between applications, the indexed value is highly reproducible. Conductivity measurement must be activated to monitor the buildup index, that's why in Netilion the Buildup index is always shown together with the conductivity.

Prerequisites Remote Heartbeat Monitoring
The following remote Heartbeat Monitoring capabilities are available:
Heartbeat Sensor Integrity HBSI (Coriolis flow meter)
To use the monitoring capabilities, the connected field instrument must meet the following prerequisites:
- SGC500 connectivity options: HART or PROFINET
- Supported devices: Promass 300/500
- Instrument Firmware: Must be up to date.
- Application package: Heartbeat Verification + Monitoring must be activated on the device
On Netilion:
- The Heartbeat Verification Add-on must be assigned to the asset
- For full functionality: Asset Permission: Update permission set. In case the SGC500 created the asset all permissions set automatically.
- Subscription Assignment: The asset must be assigned to a subscription. If created by the SGC500, this is done automatically
Buildup index (Electromagnetic flow meters)
To use the monitoring capabilities, the connected field instrument must meet the following prerequisites:
- SGC500 connectivity options: HART or PROFINET
- Supported devices: Promag 300/400/500
- Instrument Firmware: Must be up to date.
- Application package: Heartbeat Verification + Monitoring must be activated on the device
On Netilion:
- The Heartbeat Verification Add-on must be assigned to the asset
- For full functionality: Asset Permission: Update permission set. In case the SGC500 created the asset all permissions set automatically.
- Subscription Assignment: The asset must be assigned to a subscription. If created by the SGC500, this is done automatically
Activation of monitoring parameter on the device
The HBSI (“Continuous HBSI) and conductivity (Buildup index) need to be activated on the device manually e.g. via the device display, DeviceCare, FieldCare, Field Xpert or Webserver.
User role:
- Expert level required
HBSI
- Open Promass DTM
- Switch to Expert mode
- Navigate to:
Expert
→ Diagnostics
→ Heartbeat Technology
→ Heartbeat Monitoring
- Set:
- Heartbeat Monitoring = Active
- HBSI Mode = Continuous HBSI
Continuous HBSI is now running permanently.
Conductivity
- Open Promag DTM
- Switch to Expert mode
- Navigate to:
Setup
→ Advanced setup
→ Conductivity measurement
-
Set:
a. Conductivity measurement = Active
Conductivity is now running permanently.
Activate the add-on through the Add-on Assignment Page
To activate the add-on Heartbeat Verification, please proceed as follows:
- Sign in to Netilion Health
- On the Health app you find Heartbeat Technology as a category
- To assign and unassign assets to the Heartbeat Addons go to Add-on Assignment
- In the section, select the assets you want to modify
- Select between assign and unassign for the selected assets
Activate the add-on on a single digital twin of an asset
The second way to activate the add-on Heartbeat Verification on a single asset:
- Sign in to Netilion Health
- On all objects list, select the asset where you want to activate the add-on Heartbeat Verification
- On the asset details page, click on "edit".
- In the section Features add-on, activate the Heartbeat Verification
- Refresh the page and you will see the Heartbeat Verification activated
Can I use Remote Verification and monitoring capabilities for devices bought without Heartbeat Verification + Monitoring option activated?
To use the remote verification and monitoring capabilities within Netilion Health, you need a Heartbeat Technology device with an active Heartbeat Verification + Monitoring option. Currently, it’s not possible to activate the option for Heartbeat Verification + Monitoring via Netilion but you can contact your local Endress+Hauser representative to activate the option your device so you can benefit from the advantages of performing a remote Heartbeat Verification or monitor specific parameters via Netilion in future.
