The FieldEdge SGC500 offers the possibility to communicate with PROFINET field devices. After enabling PROFINET support, the FieldEdge SGC500 scans for available PROFINET field devices and creates the assets in Netilion. Netilion Health and Value support depends on the supported PROFINET field devices.
The PROFINET functionality can be activated under the Edge Device Edit page in Netilion. Select the Edge Device Details page and click on Edit.
Click on the slider to activate PROFINET, and click save to activate the PROFINET feature.
The FieldEdge SGC500 will scan for PROFINET devices on both network interfaces at 20-minute intervals.
Preconditions
SGC500 software version: 3.04.02 or higher.
The following ports need to be open:
- UDP Port 34964 for requests to the PROFINET devices.
- Port 53248 for the responses from the PROFINET devices to the FieldEdge SGC500.
For identification of the connected PROFINET devices, the Identify All service of the PROFINET Discovery and Configuration Protocol (DCP) is used. The Identify All service is a multicast service running on the Ethernet link layer.
Netilion services integration
Analytics
Assets for connected PROFINET field devices are automatically created from FieldEdge SGC500. The maximum number of PROFINET devices is set to 254 (max hosts of a class C subnet). The FieldEdge SGC500 reads the serial number stored in the I&M parameters of the PROFINET field devices to create the asset in Netilion. The station name of the PROFINET field device is taken as the instrumentation name in Netilion.
Health
Health data of connected PROFINET field devices are regularly read. There is an extended diagnosis interpretation available for Endress+Hauser field devices. If there is no diagnosis information sent by a 3rd party PROFINET device, the health status of the device is indicated as OK.
Value
A generic value service for (Analog Inputs, Discrete Inputs, and Totalizers) is available for PROFINET field devices (no gateways) that support at least PROFINET PA Profile 4. For Endress+Hauser field devices that do not support PROFINET PA Profile 4, device-specific value support is available. This includes the following field devices and their values:
Device Family | Read Values |
Promag 100 |
Volume_flow, Mass_flow, Conductivity, Corrected_volume_flow, Temperature, Corrected_conductivity |
Promag 300 500 |
Volume_flow, Mass_flow, Conductivity, Corrected_volume_flow, Temperature, Corrected_conductivity, Flow_velocity, Density, Totalizer_value_1, Totalizer_value_2, Totalizer_value_3 |
Promass 100 |
Mass_flow, Volume_flow, Density, Corrected_volume_flow, Reference_density, Temperature, Dynamic_viscosity, Kinematic_viscosity |
Promass 300 500 |
Mass_flow, Volume_flow, Density, Corrected_volume_flow, Reference_density, Temperature, Dynamic_viscosity, Kinematic_viscosity, Totalizer_value_1, Totalizer_value_2, Totalizer_value_3 |
Constraints
There is no support for third-party legacy devices that do not support at least PROFINET PA Profile 4.
The RSG45 is not supported because the device only provides cyclic data and does not support implicit reads used by the FieldEdge SGC500.
There is an issue with the units read from Liquiline CM44x, Liquistation CA80xx, and CSFxx until version 1.14.01. This should be fixed with version 1.15.00.
There is no support for value service and devices behind the IO-Link masters via PROFINET.
There is no support for Profibus devices behind a PROFINET APL switch.
